Anger Management
Anger is a bit like anxiety in that it is another example go a trapped emotion.
When a person feels frequent anger at the slightest provocation it is because the real source of the anger is actually an event, or a series of events, from the past – probably from their childhood. Adults have the ability to process and release their emotions without having to voice them, but children do not have the emotional capacity to do this. So if a child finds themselves in a situation which makes them angry and they are unable to voice that anger – either because no-one will listen, or because they have been told not to – the emotion can become trapped in their subconscious. Did you ever shout as a child and hear ‘Don’t you speak to me like that!?
When this happens, the person will keep on feeling the anger at the slightest provocation in an attempt to express and hopefully release it. But the release doesn’t occur because emotions that are trapped in the subconscious cannot be released consciously. This ongoing situation explains why some people seem to repeatedly lose their temper in situations where the vast majority of us would not. Road rage is an excellent indicator of this – if you suffer from it, you have definitely got some work to do!
Fortunately there is a simple way to resolve this. When a person is hypnotised and then re-visits the event or events in question, it is more like re-living than remembering the event, and in this state the emotion can be expressed and released. It is a highly effective therapy, and I have successfully treated many clients who never dreamed that living without their anger was even possible.
